Countdown to COA: Body Count

(Last Updated On: )

The irony of the tiny white girl writing about Body Count over the tall black dude is not lost on me, but Rodney has stated multiple times that I’m more black than he is.  I don’t even think he’s seen Boyz N the Hood.

MEMBERS

  • Ice-T – lead vocals (1990-present)
  • Ernie C – lead guitar, backing vocals (1990-present)
  • Sean E Sean – sampler, backing vocals (1990-present)
  • Vincent Price – bass, backing vocals (2001-present)
  • Ill Will – drums (2008-present)
  • Juan of the Dead – rhythm guitar, backing vocals (2013-present)
  • Little Ice – hype man, backing vocals (2016-present)

I digress.  Body Count brutally fuses heavy metal with rap straight out of South Central.  Ice-T and his close friend Ernie C. started a band so Ernie could play the guitar.  Hehe.  Both were especially inspired by Black Sabbath.  The band introduced themselves at Lollapalooza in 1991, garnering following from a younger generation open to alternative musical influences.  To be expected, the badass alumni of Crenshaw High drew controversy from their song “Cop Killer,” alleged by some to glamorize violence against police officers in the wake of high profile police brutality against members of the black community.

All things said, Ice-T might have an anger problem…but the love for the music he creates surely is not lost.  #FuckOprah #GimmieMyFuckinPassword
