Summer is officially in full swing, and we all know what that means.
Here are my top 5 products to keep your hair healthy while doing your best to beat the heat.
Shampoo & Conditioner
Shampoo and conditioner are first step to keeping your hair healthy. Not only do they cleanse your hair but provide the necessary moisture and nutrients.
You can have great products but if the base is not there your additional products will not work as well. My personal favorite shampoo and conditioner for my hair is the Davines NouNou Conditioner. My hair loves protein and moisture. It really helps my curls and colored hair feel the healthiest it can be. This can be a little heavy for those who do not have curly hair or bleached hair. I also suggest Kevin Murphy’s Hydrate Me combo. It does a great job of providing that moisture to the hair without weighing it down or making it oily.
If you love being out in the sun or using hot tools on your hair, a heat protectant and UVA/UVB protection is a MUST have in your summer arsenal. Using Kevin Murphy’s Heated Defense or Amika’s The Shield will help protect your hair from heat damage and sun damage. It’s pretty necessary when you’re wanting to hit the beach or if you like to use heat on your hair.
3 Leave in conditioner is a must have. With swimming and the sun your hair will feel dry. Especially, if you have bleached hair. I recommend picking up Carol’s Daughter Black Vanilla Moisture and Shine Leave-In Conditioner or Davines’s All in One Milk. Both will help replenish your hair and add that soft silky smooth feeling. I always put my leave in conditioner in damp hair after my heat protectant and before any oils.
We all sweat during the summer and sometimes that means we need a quick refresh in between washes. Getting a perfect dry shampoo can help keep your hair feeling fresh and smelling good. I would be lying if I didn’t say Kevin Murphy’s Fresh Hair wasn’t my favorite go-to dry shampoo. It’s light weight, smells amazing, and I find that it doesn’t leave a powder look too it. Oribe Gold Lust Dry Shampoo would be my second favorite for summer. It has lavender and chamomile that helps smooth itchy scalps that can be irritated from sweat.
What’s summer without humidity? Humidity can transform your hairstyle like a flip of a switch. Frizziness can be a hassle but the use of hairspray can help seal in all of your products and set your hair. I love spraying my dry hair before heat styling to help smooth and add extra hold for those long lasting curls. If it’s an especially humid day I will do one last spray after I brush my curls out.
Summer is our most active time of year. Between going to the beach, tanning in the sun, gardening, and everything else we do our hair has a lot more outside stress. Sometimes our hair just needs that extra TLC while we make the most out of our summer.
