Rockstar Tip #7: Effort

(Last Updated On: )

Effort counts twice.

As part of my studies on how to be a Rockstar, I have been reading Grit: The Power of Passion and Perseverance by Angela Duckworth.  I am a social scientist at heart, so digging deep back into empirical analysis speaks to my soul.  Nourishes it.  I find the fact someone (and colleagues) actually quantified a concept as intangible as “passion” incredibly fascinating.

In her quest to answer burning questions about the psychology behind achievement, she developed a theory of how talent leads to achievement.  According to her theory, talent describes how quickly skills improve (your multipliers, gamers).  Achievement occurs when you use your acquired skills.  In between lies effort.  Twice.

You know how after 10,000 hours you become an expert?  It’s kinda like that.
